Lawyers for Denver's Animal Law Center said Monday they are investigating the Sept. 8 police shooting of a 2-year-old yellow Labrador.
Lawyer Jennifer Edwards-Thomaidis said that the shooting of the dog, named Rocky, was unjustified.
"We are committed to putting an end to this extreme police misconduct," Thomaidis said.
She said police could have used pepper spray, a taser or waited for Denver Animal Control, which had been called and was on the way.
Detective Sharon Hahn, a Denver police spokeswoman, said the shooting was necessary.
