Jay Swearingen, attorney with The Animal Law Center, participated today in a lively panel discussion about Mr. Trenton Parker’s threat to execute 24 horses in Weld County. Mr. Swearingen pointed out that there were several legal avenues to protect the horses from Mr. Parker’s planned executions. Peter Boyles invited Mr. Swearingen to call into his named morning program on KHOW 630 AM to present the legal view of the situation.
“Clearly it’s not legal for Mr. Parker to deal with one legal claim by threatening the unlawful execution of horses.” said Mr. Swearingen. Based on Mr. Parker’s long history, Mr. Swearingen believes this is an attempt to secure funds, directly or indirectly, by threatening the welfare of animals. The discussion included other community members, including Weld County District Attorney and U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck. All agreed that Mr. Parker has many options at his disposal to positively deal with the situation.
“Peter Boyles is doing an outstanding community service by publicizing the plight of these horses and highlighting the issues with Mr. Parker.” commented Jennifer Reba Edwards, the lead attorney and founder of The Animal Law Center. “We stand ready to assist the community-at-large in reaching an appropriate resolution in this case.”
