Lawyer Jennifer Thomaidis filed a class action in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado on behalf of cat owner Emily Tompkins, whose cat, Grover, died in March after eating contaminated pet food, The Denver Post reports.

Pet deaths have been reported across the country and a half-dozen companies have recalled pet food because of contamination, including Menu Foods.

Pet owners will file the first, class action lawsuit Wednesday in Colorado against Menu Foods and other pet food manufacturers who sold bad product.
