Lawyers for Denver's Animal Law Center said Monday they are investigating the Sept. 8 police shooting of a 2-year-old yellow Labrador. Lawyer Jennifer Edwards-Thomaidis said that the shooting of the dog, named Rocky, was unjustified.
In a “freak second” Rocky, a three year old yellow lab, got out of his house on Monday afternoon, says owner Sally Sutherby. In a matter of minutes, Rocky was dead; shot twice, once in his back and once in the back of his head, by Police. According to a witness, the dog was running scared, away from the officer giving chase.
The kennel owner accused of locking dogs in their cages to starve is being offered a plea deal with probation instead of jail time. Jennifer Thomaidis, a Denver attorney specializing in animal law, says the case sends the message that animals are disposable property.
